TOUR OVERVIEW

Depart the coastal town of Durban and head through the Valley of a Thousand Hills towards the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. Explore the quaint town of Howick and its rich history before witnessing the Umgeni River cascading on its way to the Indian Ocean. Visit the notorious spot where Nelson Mandela was captured before spending 27 years in prison and get an introduction on Apartheid history at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site Museum. Finish your first day meandering around Dargle Valley and its creative workshops. Overnight at the Fern Hill Hotel which is renowned for their restaurant — The Snooty Fox.

Your second day takes you into the UNESCO Drakensberg World Heritage Site. Embark on a challenging 3 hour hike through the Kamberg Nature Reserve and unlock the mystery behind the SAN (Bushman) Rock Art. Did you know that Kamberg is home to the Rosetta Stone of Rock Art — if that’s not worth the hike, I’m not sure what is. Check in at the luxurious Hartford House and freshen up after that sweaty morning in the mountains. Spend the afternoon visiting the wonderful boutique shops and farms along Nottingham Road.

It’s your final morning in this stunning part of the world so it’s only fitting that we end it on a high and at a high altitude. Take in the scenery as your journey through the Royal Natal National Park i.e. the awe-inspiring Drakensberg Amphitheatre before enjoying a leisurely drive back to the warm currents of the Indian Ocean but not before a stop at Makaranga Gardens for a spot of lunch.

Guests have complimentary use of our Carl Zeiss Terra ED Binoculars for the full duration of the tour

POPULAR ADD ON: Take your tour to the next level by including a 1 or 2 night safari at the Big 5 Nambiti Private Game Reserve which is renowned for rewarding game viewing.
